Planter box

August 20, 2011

A planter box full of dirt covered with folded plastic sheeting. There is visual potential here contingent on the framing. This is the first attempt. Optar 135mm lens on Crown Graphic 4×5.The contrast range was 3 stops from the darkest to the lightest area. I exposed to place the dark dirt patch two stops under the meter (zone III in the zone system)  which places the highlights on zone V. This is too dark as the highlights are exposing as mid-tones. So I pushed two stops in the processing to move the highlights to zone VII. HP5 in Xtol 1:1 for 18 minutes at 20 deg (normal times is 12 mins).

I also exposed one sheet of colour as a reference, using Fuji Pro 160S.
